If you are mad at me or don't want to talk to that's fine, but let me know! ...well I mean it's not "fine" but if you don't talk about it how are we supposed to make it better?

Well, I've been making some actual tangible progress on my little project. As you can see here by this clip. It's tough because I only have a couple hours to work on this every other day... and then other days I just don't feel like it... or it's shark week... or there's a documentary on about dinosaurs, or maybe I just pass out cause I started drinking at 11 am. I don't know, things happen and I'm told about them when I wake up. Next thing I know I'm being told that I animated this scene in a drunken stupor. I don't remember doing it but it totally sounds like something I would do...

Progress continues, as of yet we haven't introduced any sound into any individual sequence. That'll come soon. Mouth movements will be added at that time. We haven't added them yet since we'd just have to change them anyway.

On an unrelated note I have to say that I'm pretty pumped about the return of Superjail. The first episode was pretty great, but in some ways... it almost made too much sense. It didn't end in the same cacophony of pointless and gratuitous violence that it has been known for. Yes there was plenty of violence but there was reason to it. We'll see. I'm still pretty pumped, and will be greatly looking forward to future episodes.

Hello, I realize my posts have become more and more sparse, and that the actual amount of blogging with in each post has become... well, sparse. But that's all gonna change (I know I'm not supposed to use "but" to start a sentence, but I do it anyway because it makes me feel good. (see I'm doing it now! I'm blogging mindlessly) Because I've recently realized that there's actually a handful of people who actually follow this blog.

This is another clip from a self made cartoon me and 2 others are working on that is really happening. In fact it's more really happening than ever! What I mean is that progress has been good. Most everything has been cleaned up at this point. We've been using TV Paint for the scanning and compiling.

If all goes well it will only be a few more months before we can call this done.

I'm trying to become pretty regular about making comics, even though there was a long pause before this one. I like the style their developing but I feel like their still pretty sloppy. I'm a rather impatient artist. I think that's why I take to animation so well. Even though it takes a long time to finish a whole work, I move from drawing to drawing much quicker.

This comic is about an Ambulance driver who takes the time to deliver a PSA.

I admit it, I've been slacking... I've done a few interesting things in the last week. I went to Hinckly Ohio to watch a reproduction of a 1940's style radio production. Well I guess it really wasn't a reproduction, since it was actually recorded with the intention of being aired on the radio. The played super old pop songs, it was actually a lot of fun. The man who puts it on "Larry Kass" also has an extremely impressive collection of art. He had a large number of paintings by Barbara Sargent who is most famous for creating the Strawberry Shortcake character. Turns out she's also an amazing oil painter.

I went to the CCAD senior thesis show today. I was mightily impressed with most of the work. Honestly this might be one of the most talented grades I've seen. There were definitely some very talented people in my grade, but this group seems more consistently good, like everyone is operating on a level that much closer together. They seem like a pretty tight group that might have something to do with it. I don't remember my grade being so tight.... or maybe I was just an outsider, who knows?

Any way that's about it.

The Next Animation

Hello fellows, I haven't posted in about a month and that's kind of messed up. Well here is the storyboard for the next animation in the pipeline. This ones a bit of a bigger production than previous ones. There are all ready three of us working on it, and we are always looking for more help. Needless to say no money is involved.... unless we win some sort of prize money but that's way down the road.

Most of the dialogue is finished. Many of the shots are not final. Especially in the beginning when the scientists are talking. Much of that is probably going to change. The ending is a little open ended at this point. I've all ready heard a few suggestions on how that could be different... or better. I'm thinking about adding a scene after the credits that might add a bit more closure.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome!

I feel really lame whenever I post but don't include an image. So I hope this makes up for the last one. This is a concept sketch for an idea me and some friends are working on. It's about a boy who travels from island to island in a world like earth that isn't earth. Also there's a war going on and some people are turning into lizards because of radiation. There's a lot more to it than that but I think we are saving a lot of that information for later when we can put together a more cohesive presentation.

I did the color with copic markers. I like them very much but they're not so good once you get out into big fields of color, like the sky. Then it's hard to hide the strokes.

Last night I saw Cracker play at the basement. For those of you who may not know Crackers lead signer is David Lowery, who also the lead singer Camper Van Beethoven. Any way I had the opportunity to talk to him, and by that I mean that I broke all the rules and drunkenly walked right back stage and shook his hand and introduced myself. Nothing really came of it, but I don't know what would of really? Either way I talked to him more after the show, and by that I mean he sort of gave me the brush off, but his wife/girlfriend (not sure) said that she loved the video and showed her kids in the Czech republic. (I was kind of confused about them being Europe maybe I heard wrong and they were someone else's kids)

Anyway that's pretty cool, knowing that people as far as the Czech Republic have seen my video. You know that actually reminds me of when I was at the LA film festival. I popped back in on the last day to try and find somebody but instead an Italian guy recognized me and told me that he really liked the Lassie video, and we both agreed that Space girls was really bad. It was trust me. Or trust this.

Any way back on the note of apologizing for nothing in my last post I made mention that the Seal animation wasn't as funny as I hoped it would be. Well I take it all back. At the time when I said that I had only showed it to people who already knew what was going to to happen. Since then I have shown it to a lot more people, and people who have had no prior exposer to the idea, and their reactions have been more than satisfactory.

At Long Last, Completion!

So, I finally finished the seal animation. Maybe it isn't that funny. Maybe it is needlessly violent, but you know what? I came up with this idea at a party it was really, really, funny then, and I promised myself that I would turn it into an animation one day. That day was yesterday!

Any way I think the animation turned out really smooth and that's what matters the most anyways. I'm just glad to be finished. Finally I can start thinking about what comes next.

...Oh right well I guess it's not totally done. I still need to tweak some of the volume levels, and if I could get Kon to do the live action intro that would blow my mind. I don't think he will though he didn't seem to into the idea. Oh well maybe there is someone else who could do it...

Some things I like.

I really like Radiohead. I'm listening to OK Computer right now for the first time in a long time. I remember when I was first listening to this album it was when I was in high School reading the Martian Chronicles. That was a book I really liked. Something about how spacey Radiohead is must of made all the crazy, weird, aliens, space houses, and Bee-Guns in that book not only seem plausible but seem awesome. I've only read that book once. Maybe I should read it again.

I've only read a few books twice. I know that The Thing's They Carried is one. Huckleberry Finn Is another one. I'll tell you what, I took a lot more out of that book the second time. Also it was a lot funnier than I remember.

Sorry it just came on. I'm trying to be as stream of consciousness as possible.
That song has one of the coolest keyboard parts I've ever heard. Just the whole over all feel of that song is groovy. I feel that I am constantly in a search for music that can match how chilled out that song is. Serge does a pretty good job. I really like that Bob Dylan song that they use in The Lebowski. The Man In Me. That's a super chill song.

Air does a good job of keeping it cool, but... sometimes they just get a little bit too chill. Plus their too obvious about it.

I was just at the Columbus film festival last night and had a really great time. The films were fantastic, and the Brothers Drake Meadery was there. I even won an award. Having no clue that I would be in a position to give a speech I believe that I came up with a truly moving message. If I remember correctly I think I said.
"It's a miracle that we even made it here today, thank you... thank you"

Yo guys, what's up! I finally found a computer that would allow me to upload this audio skit my friends and I made, onto YouTube. None of us have a video camera, but I thought "who need's it" One of my favorite shows is home movies and that's just about as funny with out the visuals, as with. It could practically be a radio show. Oh yeah! Also I listened to some Prairie home Companion. That also sort of sparked the idea.

It's sort of like Dr. Katz goes out west. A fairly level headed psychiatrist interviews/helps various frontiers men with varying psychological ailments. I'd like to do more episodes but the voice of the psychiatrist (Leo Eisenlore) moved to F#@$ing China of all places. Might do more with a different voice but it's pretty upsetting, I really made the character with him in mind.

I originally conceived the idea to be purely an audio experience but my friends are assuring me that it will be better with visuals, so I am complying. Here are a few of the early scenes where he is describing how he met Jedediah Smith (who apparently is a real historical figure). The version with visuals will be up in a bit, but I won't lie. It will probably be a while.

I realize that I gave a pretty poor account of a pretty epic trip before. So I am righting my wrongs. Above are pictures of Colorado. These were taken the first morning of our trip. This meant that we drove from Cincinnati to Colorado in one all day long voyage. We met up with some friends there and camped over night.

Above is Arizona. We drove through it twice. On the way out we drove through a little 15 mile stretch in the north west corner. It also happened to be a pretty majestic canyon.
Above is a picture of Beverly hills, then 2 pictures of California one. You know one of the crazy things about this trip was? It proved damn near every preconceived notion I had about most of the places we went to.
Colorado=All of the people their are either hip, backpackers, or crazy (or all 3)
California=The weather is actually perfect
LA=There are porn stars and wannabes everywhere
San Francisco=Hippies, HIPPIES
Texas=Texans are fat and the love texas
Kansas= Kansas sucks
Yosemite! Now you're talking majestic place! enough said.
The first picture is the sun setting over the Mississippi (Nashville). The next is the Grand Canyon, and the last is some power plant in the desert. So much happened it's hard to put down any thing of real significance. One of the coolest places we stumbled upon was a modern ghost town in the middle of the Mojave desert. That was really creepy. Sadly I have no photos of it. It was the only roll of film I lost. MAYBE THE PLACE NEVER EXISTED AT ALL.

It's taking a while because I have a full time job now, but it'll get done eventually. Obviously all of this animation is rough and there's a lot that is going to be tweaked so if you have any suggestions let know.

Demo Reel

You know I'm going to miss my job at the supply store. That was a sweet gig. I honestly feel that it is the best job I have ever had. Map Quest!

So if you haven't figured it out by now I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm kind of a loser, and if you don't believe me feast your eyes on this. You won't find this map in any atlas because I made it up. Everything on here is fictional including the names. In fact I found that coming up with all the place names was the hardest part.

Theres no story behind this world (No D&D campaign, I'm not that bad) but I kind of picture it to exist in and around an industrial revolution sort of time. A time when naval power is extremely significant. The western continent is more reminiscent of our worlds Europe and America, while the lower eastern continent is more a combination of Asia and Africa, but culturally more similar to a semi modern Germany/Rome (at least the big red nation, (Tytheria)).The Yellow patch near the bottom of the world is supposed to be like an Incan society or tribe.

Any way up loading this was actually kind of premature there are three cities I forgot to assign names to. It can kind of be like a wheres Waldo book! You can have lot's of fun trying to find them. Also, there is one glaringly huge mistake on this map. I'll give any one who can find it a high five.

Here it is my senior thesis project. It's so close to being finished. I was going to upload it in small bits over a long time... but whatever. If you aren't able to figure it out it's about Lassie going to the moon. Why? I have no idea. Sometimes you just start working on something and this happens.

You know I think if I asked the creators of some of my favorite cartoons, why some of the things that happened, happened in their cartoons they'd have a similar answer. Actually I did, and he did. I asked Tom Ruegger why Slappy Squirrel used the space ship from close encounters of the third kind to (defeat?) the 3 Tenors. He didn't really know. He supposed cause it was funny... It wasn't... But I'm positive that lots of things that were hilarious in that show were thought up he same way. Like Brain reciting Orson Welles Frozen Pea ad. Brilliant! but totally like "what?"

Does any of this make sense? am I getting through to any of you?

Any way I've gotten disgutingly off topic. Also I didn't want to imply that Slappy Squirrel wasn't funny. She's great.

So there I was minding my own business, sketching the monkeys, and when I look up from my sketchbook. BAM! Monkey dick!

Thats right, 2 monkeys doing it. It was horrible, and completely public. Not just to me but to all the other monkeys. The little baby monkeys were climbing all other them in the middle of the act. No decency what so ever. I even saw a monkey pee on another monkey. I've got to say my opinion of monkeys has dropped a little bit.

(just a little bit though, my opinion was never very high).

Other than that though the Zoo trip was sweet. I was the Grizzly Bears fighting, and that more than made up for it.

Yes it's that other thing I do... make maps. This is the third one I've done, and I must say I'm pretty pleased with it. You know it's a real shame cartography went out of style when people pretty much figured out what the world looks like. Damn Satellites! I really like the emblem on this one. I keep trying to out do myself on the ornate marker in the bottom left corner. I'll post some of the older ones later but I'll stagger them so that you don't get bored with geography. Look forward to the one I'm working on now, it should be the best one yet. It'll be an illustrated map of the Mesozoic Era. Thats right, Dinosaurs!

Cat and Mouse Cartoon

Ok I finished this idea, which I'll sum up real quickly cause I'm a building thats shutting down. So there's a really fat cat whose pressured into chasing this mouse by his owners. Once the mouse realizes that he's in no real danger (due to the cats incredible girth he decides to mess with him.

The mouse tells the cat that he needs to work out and the chase begins and the mouse climbs up a book case that the cat fails to overcome. After hilariously falling to the ground the chase continues to the stair case. By the time cat gets to the top the mouse has been waiting for him. He informs the cat that he is not properly "feeling the burn" and kicks his ass right back down the staircase.

Once at the bottom the cat informs the mouse of his "lack of motivation". upon hearing this the mouse covers himself in salt and butter to wet that cats appetite. The cat tries to catch the mouse but he dodges out of the way sending him into the oven. He cranks the heat all the way up and the cat comes out as a roast duck of some sorts.

The mouse sticks him with a fork and he abruptly comes back to action only to break down crying. He explains that he is just a simple and lazy cat who never wanted to do anything. The mouse sympathizes with the cat while cleverly consoling themselves with food from the fridge. Some time elapses and we see that their weepy bonding moment has left themselves bloated from all the food they've been eating. The cat's owner shows up once again to encourage the chase but now both parties are content in saying fuck off.

Hello again. I present to you today Rita Redford. I sort of see her as 28-34 year old white woman who snorts a lot of coke and tries to solve crimes. However she is not an official detective and is unemployed. Most of the crimes she would be solving would either be petty cases that poor and ignorant people call her for (since they don't want to spend money on a real detective). Or cases she takes upon herself (usually a coke fueled delusion).

She is horribly lonely and despite her constant attempts to appear sexy and dangerous she is usually viewed as "weird" and "undesirable".

Any ways I'm working on larger project right now. I'm starting to understand how good ideas so frequently get widdled down to mediocrity, and how art that gets away from the artist is always doomed to it. Anyways more on that later. (if I still feel bitter)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!! (This blog still has no followers). I felt like putting up a new post today. Sadley though I'm at my home in Cincinnati and don't have any new art here to put up. So I went to my Deviant art page (damn that terrible site) and Jacked a bunch of my old artwork off of it to put up here.

So these are some old sketches I did 2-3 years ago. Sadley I don't draw like this anymore. I used to draw in pen all the damn time. In fact it was about the only thing I would use. The first line I would put down would be the last line I put down.

There are 2 ways you can look at drawing. One way is that there is a right and a wrong. Either you got the drawing right, or it's wrong! "It's terrible the legs are too long, the bodies too short, or whatever." Thats where I am now. Animation put me there, you've got to stay on model, otherwise it looks like crap.

The other way is that every line you put down is true, and beautiful ,and is an expression of the allmighty scribbed through your blessed hand. I guess thats where I was, whether I thought that at the time or not. It's too bad because I miss the sketchy rough style i didn't realize I could loose. Well whatever, I rule and merry Christmas.

Well this is exciting. I felt like I had to put up some artwork, so here some is. This is a flyer I made for my band Johnny and the Snakes. Yes I realize I spelled Johnny "Johny" on the image. My bad, what can I say, I don't know how to spell my own bands name.

It was fun working on this because this is the closest thing I've done to an illustration in a about a year. Not to mention it looks a lot better than any illustration I did, when I did.

I pulled in real textures for the backgrounds, and gave the characters flat solid colors. This was a new idea for me but I think it turned out pretty sweet. I think I'm gonna try this technique again soon but I want to get even weirder with it. I think things could get pretty psychedelic real quick.

Any way thats post #1 expect more soon.
